The North Dakota legislature is once again taking up a measure that would raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco to 19 in the state.
That bill, H.B. 1236, has been introduced by six legislators:
- Rep. Pamela Anderson, D-41
- Sen. Kyle Davidson, R-41
- Rep. Ron Guggisberg, D-11
- Rep. LaurieBeth Hager, D-21
- Rep. Jon Nelson, R-14
- Rep. Mary Schneider, D-21
Anderson, Guggisberg and Schneider co-sponsored similar legislation in 2017. That bill was defeated 68-22 by the House of Representatives.
California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Oregon have all raised the minimum age to purchase tobacco and tobacco alternatives to 21-years-old.
