Nicaragua’s Puro Sabor Adds Extra Day for 2016 Festival

The Nicaraguan cigar festival is turning five and now expanding.

The Asociación Nicaragüense de Tabacaleros (ANT), the Nicaraguan cigar manufacturer’s association, has announced plans for the fifth Nicaraguan cigar festival, Puro Sabor 2016. The festival, which has undergone modifications each year noticeably enhancing its quality will now see the biggest change in three years: an extra day to visit Flor de Caña, the Nicaraguan rum manufacturer.

Guests will still arrive in Managua for the opening gala, although the venue is now listed as Puerto Salvador Allende. On the second day, attendees will head two hours to Chichigalpa for a tour of Flor de Caña and an equestrian show before heading back to Managua. That night, the festival will host Puro Humo, an evening gala and conference for festival attendees, as well as local cigar smokers in attendance.

The next two days are relatively similar to previous years: a morning bus trip to Estelí, a visit to tobacco fields before lunch, now at Rocky Patel’s TAVICUSA fields. An additional factory tour is scheduled for later in the day before the festival’s white party takes place at Plaza Domingo Gadea in Estelí.

The following day features field and factory tours in the morning before a talk with Nicaraguan cigar makers about a variety of topics. The final night features the formal gala dinner and auction. Guests had back to Managua on Saturday morning to catch their flights.

This year’s festival begins on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and concludes on Jan. 16. There’s a discounted registration price for those who register before Oct. 1.
