News: Zino Platinum to Release Ten Toro X

Zino Platinum has commissioned a New York City art collective to decorate the boxes for their upcoming Zino Platinum Ten Toro X release that will celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary.

“The artwork will adorn four different collector’s edition boxes,” Richard Krutick, Davidoff’s head of marketing told Cigar Aficionado. “The collection is inspired by the innovators, the risk takers, the mavericks—those who capture the spirit of Zino Platinum.”

Brand owner Davidoff of Geneva brought in urban artist collective UR New York to create four different box designs that will each hold ten of the new cigars, which measure 5 1/ 2 x 60. According to Gregory Mottola’s story, the cigars use a Nicaraguan wrapper, Dominican binder and filler from Peru and the Dominican Republic.

The art project is called “The Make” and will feature graffiti prints that reflect both New York’s street art and the spirit of Zino Platinum. From the Zino Platinum website:

Inspired by trendsetters from the dynamic East Coast rap and hip-hop scene, a young, sophisticated generation in the New World discovered the joys of smoking cigars. The successful “Crown” and “Scepter” Series are since then available in Europe. The sophisticated generation with links to the hip-hop and East Coast rap culture are fervent adepts of these novel formats with their innovative packaging, and have triggered a veritable movement towards overtly indulging in a cigar.

The Zino Platinum Ten Toro X will not be the brand’s first venture into 60 ring gauge cigars, as their Crown Series features the 6 x 60 Barrel, the 6 x 60 Rocket, and the 61 ring gauge Chubby Especial perfecto. Prices, production numbers and a release date have not been released yet.

About the author

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
