Habanos S.A. has announced the release of the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill in a tube format, which will be sold in three pack cardboard boxes at La Casa del Habano retail stores worldwide.
The Wide Churchill vitola was first introduced at the Habanos Festival XII in February 2010 and measures 5.1 inches long with a 55 ring gauge. Like the rest of the Romeo y Julieta marca, it is made using tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region of the Pinar del Rio province in western Cuba.
The Romeo y Julieta brand traces its roots back to the 1850s, though it wasn’t officially registered until 1873 and was fully established in 1875, which is the year referenced on the bands and from which the brand’s anniversaries are dated.
Romeo y Julieta was prominently featured at the Habanos Festival XIV in February, where it was announced that the Romeo y Julieta Churchill will be the next release in the Gran Reserva line and that the regular production line will be adding a 4 x 50 Petit Churchill vitola in 2012. A 4.9″ x 50 Short Churchill vitola was released in 2006, and is also available en tubo, as is the standard 7 x 47 Churchill vitola.
The price for the three-pack is about €35.10, or just over $46 USD.
Interestingly, at least one LCDH (Hamburg) has had them in stock since December of 2011.
