The Ortega Serie D Maduro Lancero, made specifically for the DC Cigar Tweetup in March, is heading to stores nationally next month. Eddie Ortega confirmed to halfwheel that the 6 1/2 x 38 cigar should ship in either the first or second week of May. The cigar will only be sold in the Maduro version of Ortega’s Serie D line, the first release from Ortega after he left EO Brands last year.

“Only boxes of 10 for right now, until I see demand,” said Ortega. The cigars were offered at the DC Tweetup in bundles of 10. Pricing will be $8.25 per cigar and $82.50 per box, keeping in line with Ortega’s overall pricing structure.

Ortega Premium Cigars was both halfwheel’s New Brand of the Year for 2012 and the Consensus 2012 New Brand of the Year.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
