Rapper and entertainment icon Jay Z has announced that he will be releasing a new cigar called the Comador that is being made in collaboration with General Cigar Company and will come out bearing the company’s Cohiba logo.
A website dedicated to the cigar has recently gone live, where it is described as being “created by the master blenders of Cohiba” in the Dominican Republic. There has also been a dedicated Twitter account and Facebook page launched for the cigar.
A report on StupidDope.com describes the cigar as being made with a Connecticut broadleaf binder and Connecticut Havana wrapper, while the Comador website lists the tobacco as coming from a private 25-acre plot of land surrounded by the Farmington River in Connecticut. Once the leaves are transferred to the Dominican Republic, they are said to undergo a four-year aging process, including a final year of finishing in Dominican rum barrels and then a six month resting period in a cedar lined room.
The cigar is part of a package that includes a humidor, 21 cigars and a smaller travel case. RocNation.com says that the project has been two-years in the making, and has also featured it on their Facebook page. The final cigar is available in a single 6 x 52 toro vitola.
Barney’s has already created a listing for the humidor on their website, with a note that the cigars will be made available through Cohiba’s importer. From their listing:
A New York Holiday—the creative collaboration between Shawn “JAY Z” Carter and Barneys New York—brings together the art, the fashion, the industry…the very energy New York was built on, to support an important cause. In the spirit of the holiday season, Barneys New York will donate 100% of sales from A New York Holiday items to the Shawn Carter Foundation.

Barney’s lists the package with a price of $1,000 per unit. They add that the humidor is detailed with a Barneys New York Holiday Emblem on its interior as well as a copper-tone plate on the humidor doors, as well as on top of travel cylinder. They say the humidor measure 5 1/4 inches high, 13 1/2 inches wide and 15 1/2 deep, while the travel cylinder is nine inches tall and three inches in diameter.
The cigar is also available via the Comador website, with a box of seven cigars selling for $210 and the travel cylinder selling for $350, which includes seven cigars as well.
The Cohiba Comador has been quietly released at private events since late September, including at events in Atlanta, New York and Las Vegas. A representative from General Cigars confirmed the release but did not have specific details about the cigar or its widespread launch immediately available.
