Dominican cigarmaker Felipe Gregorio will introduce three new lines at IPCPR 2013 this summer in Las Vegas, Nev.: Doppio Forza, Defiant and Maximo Ligero. Phillip Wynne’s company is largely focusing on larger ring gauges, although Defiant will be comprised of entirely 5 x 52 vitolas.

Doppio Forza will feature Dominican Criollo 97 over an Ecuadorian binder and Dominican Criollo 98 Viso and Nicaraguan Ligero. Felipe Gregorio describes the blends:

A pendulim (sic) effect occured (sic) and now the standard is full bodied. The problem is that many of the cigars available on the market today, top off the blend with ligero which in our opinion gives only strength to the cigar but takes away from the subtitles of the flavor. Doppio Fora uses more sun grown Viso in its blends combined with a ligero from Condega Nicaragua adds flavor to the strength giving complexity and roundness to the blend.

The four sizes of Doppio Forza are:

  • Felipe Gregorio Doppio Forza Little David (4 1/2 x 55) — $5.50 (Boxes of 25, $137.50)
  • Felipe Gregorio Doppio Forza Big Gun (5 x 58) — $6.00 (Boxes of 25, $150.00)
  • Felipe Gregorio Doppio Forza Grosse Bertha (6 x 60) — $6.50 (Boxes of 25, $162.50)
  • Felipe Gregorio Doppio Forza Tiny (7 1/2 x 56) — $7.50 (Boxes of 25, $187.50)

Spitfire features three different wrappers (Connecticut Ecuador, Corojo and Habana Marron) over Piloto Cubano binder and Habana 92, Criollo 98 and Piloto Cubano. It is described as:

New for 2013. The Spit Fire (sic) concept comes from the notion that a true cigar connoisseur wants a variety to smoke.

Some cigars are morning cigars whilst others marry well with a late night cognac.

Defiant comes in 3 distinct strenghts (sic) using the same core tobaccos for the blend but changing the wrappers. The art of creating a superior cigar is in the blend and we want to show off our skills in blending the perfect smoke. The secret of this blend is the ageing (sic) of tobaccos. The S will be mild but full of flavor, SS will be medium and creamy and finally the SSS will be full bodied. The Defiant’s (sic) only comes in one size which is perfect for the blend a 5×52. The cigars will be available in indivisual (sic) blends as well as in sampler box carrying the three blends.

The four vitolas for Defiant are:

  • Felipe Gregorio Defiant S (5 x 52) — $5.75 (Boxes of 30, $172.50)
  • Felipe Gregorio Defiant SS (5 x 52) — $5.75 (Boxes of 30, $172.50)
  • Felipe Gregorio Defiant SSS (5 x 52) — $5.75 (Boxes of 30, $172.50)
  • Felipe Gregorio Defiant Selection (5 x 52) — $5.75 (Boxes of 15, $86.25)
Maximo Ligero is a dual-ligero blend offered in a single size. Felipe Gregorio describes the cigar as:

Felipe Gregorio is the first to create a 2 bore cigar. Each bore is made up from one particular type of ligero. Ligero Esteli Nicaragua and Ligero Criollo 98 Dominican Republic. The construction of the cigar allows the delivery of the ligero directly to your palate. This way you have 2 ligeros merging together, giving you the opportunity to taste the purity of leaf.

It is offered in a single size of 6 x 60. Boxes of 10 retail for $80.00 with the MSRP for single cigars set at $8.00.

Update (April 29, 2013) — Due to a conflict with the Winston Churchill Spitfire, Felipe Gregorio has changed that line to Defiant.
