Camacho Cigars launched the newly redesigned CamachoCigars.com on Thursday morning, describing it as being “as bold as their products.”

A visit to the website revealed two interesting things – a pop-up alert warning that the site wants to track the user’s physical location, and a request to “Please upgrade your web browser to get the complete experience of the Camacho Cigars website,” an interesting warning considering that the Google Chrome browser being used is fully updated. The same message was displayed when using a fully updated version of Firefox. A reloading of the site cleared this message and displayed a trio of landing pages featuring the Camacho Triple Maduro, a link to the company’s Facebook page, and a third featuring Room101 Cigars and Matt Booth.

Three category headers are present on every page: Experience the Tradition, Taste the Cigars and Live the Lifestyle. The categories chronicle the history of the company, the portfolio of offerings and a listing of events, respectively. A cigar pairing tool helps users find the perfect Camacho cigar from them, asking them for their flavor and strength preferences. This area seemed to have some display issues with images being cut off in the selection process, although the tool looks quite useful.

The site also incorporates a Twitter stream of mentions and tweets from the @CamachoCigars account.

In a press release, the company addresses the tracking warning by saying that “the site utilizes progressive geo-location technology for a seamless user experience when locating nearby vendors and upcoming events. When enabled, this feature eliminates the necessity to search or enter a zip code.”

The new website is constructed purely in HTML 5 and according to the company, features responsive browser technology that provides a consistent standard of experience throughout desktop and mobile platforms.

“This is by far the most dynamic and fully integrated brand website our industry has ever seen. When thinking about this new user experience, we wanted to make sure we developed something that is practically effortless and could be easily accessed from any device. This website renovation marks the launch of a new Camacho digital presence, while enhancing the bold look of our highly coveted brand and cigars, said Dylan Austin, Head of Marketing for the Camacho brand, via a press release.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
