The recent string of burglary attempts at Miami-area cigar warehouses continued early on Saturday morning, as Florida Distributor Inc.’s Tamarac warehouse was targeted for the second time in just five months.

According to a report from WTVJ-TV in Miami, Broward’s County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the warehouse around 3:30 am on Saturday, November 16th after security cameras spotted the attempt at entry. The thieves used a stolen sheet metal saw to cut through a garage door, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

No cigars were stolen and one suspect, 30-year-old Hermes Perez, was apprehended at the scene.

It is the second break-in at the facility, as the warehouse was burglarized on July 26 to the tune of approximately 700 cases of Dutch Masters cigars, valued at approximately $250,000.

Alec Bradley was also the victim of a burglary in September, as their Hollywood, Fla. warehouse was hit for a cigar heist to the tune of $300,000 in wholesale value. Thieves in that burglary made off with bundles of Alec Bradley Prensado, as well as boxes of Nica Puro, Black Market and Alec Bradley Connecticut.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
