For some in Nevada City, Calif. a $175 fine for smoking in the city’s historic district is not enough. According to a report, city leaders are considering modifying the smoke-free ordinance to make smoking in the historic district a misdemeanor in addition to the current fine.

The downtown historic district is a 16-acre area that includes more than 70 buildings. Two years ago, the city expanded its smoking ban from just parks and trails to include municipal parking lots and the historic district.

Nevada City has a population of around 3,000 and is located in Nevada County, 60 miles north of Sacramento.
