Late last year, the Montpelier City Council listened to proposals regarding banning smoking in a variety of areas, at that time it decided to separate the measures into one that would ban smoking at the city parks and another that would ban smoking in the downtown area.

Last week, the City Council agreed to investigate the proposal regarding banning smoking in parks at the next meeting, while the measure to ban smoking in the downtown area was tabled until March 2016.

It remains unknown whether the City Council has plans to move forward with the proposal to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21, something that has previously been proposed.

Montpelier is the capital of Vermont and home to an estimated 7,755 residents.
