The 80th anniversary of the Montecristo marca was last year, but the cigar celebrating it has finally arrived at a limited number retailers.

Retailers in London have announced that the Montecristo 80 Aniversaio is now available for purchase, with a 20-count box going for £759 and singles for £39.99 at C.Gars Ltd in London, approximately US$1,011 and $51, respectively. Another retailer in the city has them listed for £800 per box, approximately US$1,064.

There have also been reports of limited quantities arriving in Canada and Mexico as well.

The cigar was first shown off at the Festival del Habano XVII in February 2015, the Cuban cigar industry’s annual celebration. It’s a new size for the Habanos S.A. portfolio, measuring 6 1/2 (165mm) in length with a 55 ring gauge, a bit longer than the brand’s Double Edmundo size. The blend is designed to be stronger than a standard Montecristo, with all the tobacco coming from Cuba’s Vuelta Abajo region of Pínar del Río.

Just 30,000 boxes of the Montecristo 80 Aniversario are being produced.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
