There will be a mild version of the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua heading to stores this spring.

The Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante is a new line from Altadis U.S.A., made by AJ Fernandez. According to a report from Cigar Aficionado, this blend was originally created by Abdel Fernández and Rafael Nodal—head of product capability for Tabacalera USA—when the pair were working on the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua, but they opted to go with a different blend for that release. All of the tobaccos used for this blend come from Nicaragua: the wrapper is a hybrid seed grown in Jalapa, while the binder is criollo grown in Ometepe and the three fillers are all from Estelí.

In an email to halfwheel, Nodal declined to comment on this release other than to say that the press release would be sent to other media outlets on Monday, March 27.

The Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante will be offered in six sizes with prices ranging from $16.42-26.08 per cigar:

  • Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Icon (4 3/4 x 48) — $16.42 (Box of 10, $164.20)
  • Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Robusto (5 x 54) — $22.86 (Box of 10, $228.60)
  • Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Toro (6 x 55) — $24.20 (Box of 10, $242)
  • Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante No. 2 (6 1/2 x 56) — $24.78 (Box of 10, $247.80)
  • Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Grande (6 x 60) — $25.16 (Box of 10, $251.60)
  • Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Churchill (7 x 54) — $26.08 (Box of 10, $260.80)

The cigars are scheduled to arrive in retail humidors as early as May.

Tabacalera USA is the parent company of Altadis U.S.A., which sells the non-Cuban version of Montecristo in the U.S. Habanos S.A. sells the Cuban version of Montecristo in countries other than the U.S.

Update (March 27, 2023) — Altadis U.S.A. issued a press release and images of the cigar, which have been added to the story.
