If pairing cigars with rum is your thing, a new arrival on store shelves should be on your shopping list as this week Mombacho Cigars announced it has started shipping the Diplomático By Mombacho Cigars S.A., a cigar designed specifically to be paired with Diplómatico rum.

The cigar uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, a binder from the Jalapa region of Nicaragua, and fillers from Nicaragua’s Condega, Estelí and Jalapa regions. It is not an infused cigar, however, nor was the tobacco aged in any rum barrels.

The line is offered in three sizes, all of which are regular production:

  • Diplomático By Mombacho Cigars S.A. Petit Corona (4 1/2 x 44) — $9.95 (Box of 10, $99.50)
  • Diplomático By Mombacho Cigars S.A. Robusto (5 x 50) — $12.95 (Box of 10, $129.50)
  • Diplomático By Mombacho Cigars S.A. Toro (6 x 52) — $14.95 (Box of 10, $149.50)

The two companies are also taking the opportunity to do some charitable good with the cigar, as Mombacho will contribute part of its share of the proceeds from the cigar sales will to Carita Felíz Kinder, a non-profit organization that helps children in need in Granada, where the company’s Casa Favilli cigar factory is located. Diplomático’s part will go to the I Love Venezuela Foundation, a non-profit organization in Venezuela, where the rum is produced.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
