Mombacho Cigars S.A. Releasing Liga Maestro

Null

Next week, Mombacho Cigars S.A. will ship the Liga Maestro to select retailers in the U.S. The blend itself is not actually new, created in 2012 between Claudio Sgroi, Mombacho’s master blender, and Stefano Bertini of B.L.S. Sigari in Milan, Italy.

The cigar itself is a Nicaraguan puro that uses tobaccos from Condega and Jalapa. For the U.S., it will be available in three sizes: Petit Corona (4 1/2 x 44, $8.95), Piramide (5 1/2 x 52, $10.95) and Robusto (5 x 50, $9.95). Each size is available in boxes of 12.

“Liga Maestro is an important project for Mombacho to show Nicaraguan tobacco blended in a highly sophisticated way to fit the European palette (sic), traditionally dominated by Cuban and Dominican tobacco,” said Sgroi, in a press release. “When our US retail partners tasted Liga Maestro at Casa Favilli in January, we were overwhelmed by their feedback and demand for this cigar. This limited release is to thank them for their support and to give their customers an opportunity to taste a very different Nicaraguan cigar.”

Liga Maestros is a limited production cigar, limited to 12 retailers:

  • Cigar Hustler (Fla.)
  • Lone Star State Cigar Co. (Texas)
  • Riverside Cigars (Ind.)
  • Nice Ash (Wis.)
  • Havana House (Ohio)
  • Leaf and Bean on the Strip (Penn.)
  • Mom’s Cigar Warehouse (N.Y.)
  • En Fuego Cigars (Nev.)
  • 8 to 8 Cigars (Ill.)
  • Tobacco logy (Va.)
  • Smoke Manayunk (Penn.)
  • Smoking Dog (N.J.)

Mombacho Cigars S.A. is based in Granada, Nicaragua, making cigars at its Casa Favilli factory. In the U.S., it’s cigars are primarily sold under the Tierra Volcan name.

Update (June 5, 2015) — The original version of this article indicated that Mombacho Cigars S.A. was distributed by RoMa Craft Tobac. It is no longer distributed by RoMa Craft Tobac.
