Minneapolis Considering Raising Minimum Tobacco Purchasing Age

On Friday, a bill was introduced that would raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco in Minneapolis from 18 to 21.

Council members Jeremiah Ellison and Andrew Johnson introduced the bill, which would go into effect Aug. 1, 2018 if passed.

The text of the bill raises the age from 18 to 21, though it appears to strip out the $50 fine that would be assessed if someone was caught selling tobacco to a person under the legal age.

Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota.
