At its most recent meeting, the Milford Board of Aldermen unanimously voted in favor of an ordinance that will raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products, e-cigarettes and vaping products to 21-years-old.
The increase will go into effect on April 19, according to a report by Patch.com. The city has not yet posted the ordinance on its website.
Retailers will have to update signage indicating the minimum age to purchase tobacco products within 30 days of that date, and will face a fine of $100 for a first offense of selling to an underage person, then $250 for each subsequent offense.
Milford is home to approximately 54,500 residents.
