Maya Selva Cigars has named Fillippo Costi as its new chief commercial officer.

Costi formerly served as general manager at Shlophili S.A., the distributor of Versace watches and Salvatore Ferragamo in Latin America.

According to a press release, Costi’s first exposure to cigars was in the early 1990’s in Spain, but he began to become more passionate about them during several trips to Havana, Cuba.

“I believe the best definition of luxury is time, the time spent perfecting and building a product,” said Costi, in a press release. “In this way, cigars are one of the greatest expressions of luxury, because of the time it takes to collect the leaves, dry and ferment them, select and roll them, and bring them to the global market… and finally, the time spent enjoying a cigar and sharing one with friends.”

According to Maya Selva Cigars, Costi will begin his new role starting June 28.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
