Scandinavian Tobacco Group is expanding the portfolio of its Macanudo Inspirado line with two new figurado vitolas that are already on their way to retailers in Belgium and The Netherlands.

The Diplomat is a double figurado that measures 4 1/2 inches long with a ring gauge that shifts from 38 to 60 to 44. The size had previously been found in the Macanudo Café and Maduro lines, so it should be familiar to Macanudo smokers.

The Macanudo Inspirado Piramide measures 6 x 54 and is geared towards figurado lovers looking for a bit longer smoke.

Both sizes are made in Honduras at STG Danlí and come in 10-count boxes. Pricing for the two new sizes was not disclosed in the press release.

Stephan Brichau, STG’s international sales & marketing manager for hand-made cigars said that the new sizes were developed in collaboration with the company’s sales force and local importers. “We are confident that with these unique sizes in the hand-made cigar category, together with the box’s warm orange color scheme, we will appeal to the hand-made cigar enthusiast,” he added via a press release.

The two new sizes will spread across the globe later this year, with Germany, Slovenia, Denmark, Italy and Poland all scheduled to have them in 2015.

The Macanudo Inspirado line was launched in May 2014 in Europe and Canada with four vitolas: the 4 3/8 x 42 Minutos a 4 1/2 x 50 Petit Piramide, a 5 x 50 robusto and the 6 x 60 Gigante. The cigar uses a rosada leaf grown in San Agustin, Honduras, while the binder comes from the Jamastran Valley in Honduras. The filler is a blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos.

It’s the latest growth of the Macanudo brand outside the U.S., as in May 2014 the Macanudo Café and Maduro both added the Titan (4 x 60) vitola as an exclusive for markets outside the U.S, while the Gigante (6 x 60) size was added to both lines internationally.

Update (April 7, 2015) — Added pictures of the cigars.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
