L’Atelier To Add LAT46 SS

A new addition to L’Atelier Imports’ LAT line has been confirmed by Pete Johnson, according to a recent article by Cigar Aficionado.

The LAT46 Selection Spéciale, or SS for short, is a 5 5/8 x 46 Corona Gorda that uses a higher priming wrapper leaf than is found on the standard LAT line. The LAT line uses a wrapper grown from a hybrid of Criollo and Pelo d’Oro called Sancti Spiritus that is grown in Ecuador by Oliva Tobacco Co. It is a notably darker leaf than the standard leaves used for LAT cigars and because of its higher priming, has additional strength that Johnson said is noticeable in the nose. The LAT46 SS is reportedly using the same Nicaraguan binder and filler as the rest of the LAT line.

In mid-November Dan Reeve tweeted a picture of the cigar with its name, something we noted in the November 19 Weekly News.

As seen in this Dec. 4 photo from My Father VP of Sales José Ortega, the new LAT46 SS uses a red background as opposed to the black background found on the rest of the LAT line. Johnson told CA that he will be adding a secondary band to the cigar to further distinguish it. According to the article, the LAT46 SS will be a regular production cigar and will ship in 10-count black lacquer boxes, with pricing estimated to be under $10 per stick. The cigars are being made at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua alongside the rest of the LAT line.

Update (December 19, 2012): Dan Welsh of L’Atelier Imports informed us that the primary band of the LAT46 SS will be the same as the rest of the line, though there will be a secondary band added. According to Welsh, “the red band is only on a few samples that came up from the factory.” The L’Atelier Imports Facebook page was updated Wednesday morning with this picture of the complete LAT line:
