The bonus Las Calaveras release for 2024 is now shipping to stores.
Crowned Heads has begun shipping the Las Calaveras Décimo Aniversario, a 6 x 52 toro that uses an Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. All of the Nicaraguan tobacco used in the blend was grown by the García family, who are the owners of My Father.
Each cigar has an MSRP of $18.95 and production is limited to 2,500 boxes of 10 cigars.
As the name implies—décimo aniversario is Spanish for tenth anniversary—the cigar is being made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Las Calaveras, an annual limited edition from Crowned Heads that pays tribute to those close to the company’s personnel who have lost their lives. The name comes from La Calavera Catrina, a zinc etching by José Guadalupe Posada. This year’s release is dedicated to four people who have passed, each of whom is identified by their initials included on the band.
Since 2014, Crowned Heads has introduced a new Las Calaveras that uses different color packaging, a different blend and oftentimes different vitolas. The first couple of years of the series saw three different vitolas released annually, though that’s been increased to four per year for most of the last decade. All of the Las Calaveras cigars—including this one—have been rolled at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua
In July, Crowned Heads shipped the Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2024, the standard release for this year. The company planned to have Décimo Aniversario ship soon after that, but it was delayed.
“Las Calaveras has had such a far-reaching impact upon the cigar community over the last decade,” said Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release when the Décimo Aniversario was announced. “We felt it only fitting to recognize this milestone of the brand. Décimo is an amazing blend, and we’re so grateful to the Garcia family and My Father Cigars for partnering with us on this tribute, and also for what we’ve created together with the Las Calaveras brand.”
