La Sonrisa Cigars is jumping into the holiday spirit with a new barber pole cigar called the La Sonrisa Holiday.

The cigar is a 6 x 50 toro that uses a pair of Ecuadorian-grown wrappers to create the candy cane or barber pole design, with two foot bands—one green and one red—capping off the holiday theme. Those all sit over an Indonesian binder and fillers from Nicaragua, a blend that the company says starts off full-bodied before dialing it back into the mild to medium range. The cigars were made at the La Sonrisa Cigars S.A. factory in Granada, Nicaragua, with rolling occurring over a year ago and the cigars resting ever since, according to Tom Hocking, co-founder of La Sonrisa.

It’s priced at $7 per cigar, or $119 for a bundle of 20 cigars and is currently available via La Sonrisa retailers as well as the company’s website. Production was limited to just about 500 cigars, Hocking noted.

About the author

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
