La Sirena Cigars is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month with the release of a new limited edition cigar, the La Sirena Aniversario Especial.

The blend is highlighted by a 10-year-old Mexican San Andrés negro wrapper sourced from the Turrent family. It sits atop a Mexican San Andrés criollo 98 binder and a filler blend that includes tobaccos from Mexico, Brazil, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

The La Sirena Aniversario Especial is being released in a single 5 3/4 x 54 robusto extra vitola that gets a soft box-press and wears a new band design featuring a mermaid with the letters AFD in her tail, a nod to Arielle Ditkowich’s initials.

It is priced at $19 per cigar and is made at Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V., Casa Turrent’s factory in San Andrés, Mexico. The company is releasing just 100 purple-hued, 10-count boxes, though Danny Ditkowich told halfwheel that there is enough tobacco to produce another 100 boxes, depending on demand.

The cigar will get a soft launch during a May 23 event at Ditkowich’s Tobacco Plaza in Great Neck, N.Y., with a limited amount shipping to retailers shortly after that. La Sirena will also have the cigar available to order at the upcoming IPCPR Convention & Trade Show.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
