While it’s been no secret that the La Palina Family Series was scheduled to return in full form at this year’s trade show, how it returned was supposed to be a bit different.

When Bill Paley announced that the La Palina Family Series, the company’s first line, would be returning with a new blend made at El Titan de Bronze in Miami, it was described as coming in boxes of 20 with the cigars in individual coffins. Turns out, only the Pasha (7 1/4 x 50) size, which began shipping earlier this month, will be offered in that presentation.

Instead, the other two vitolas will be sold in a 10-count hingeless box.

Paley told halfwheel that the new box was made with the retailer in mind. The lid for the box attaches via magnets and can stand up at a 90 degree angle with the lid attached to the back of the box. The La Palina Allison (6 x 52, $16.50) and Babe (5 1/4 x 50, $18) are the other two sizes in the Family Series Miami. The Pasha will also be presented in the 10-count boxes and will continue to be made in the 20-count version as well.

All three sizes are named after important family members: Pasha is named for Bill’s father, Babe is named for his mother and Allison is named in honor of his wife.

The Family Series was the company’s first blend following Paley’s returning the brand to the market in 2009. The original blend was made at Graycliff and was priced higher.
