There will be a new gordo vitola added to the La Galera Maduro lineup at this year’s IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, as today the brand announced the 6 1/4 x 60 Pilon vitola.

This new size, the seventh in the line, will be priced at $7.75 per cigar, or $155 for a 20-count box. It uses the same blend of a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over a Dominican piloto cubano binder and fillers of Dominican piloto cubano and criollo 98. The binder and fillers come from Tabacalera Palma’s Jacagua and Guarabo farms in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic, while the cigar is made at Tabacalera Palma in Tamboril.

The La Galera Maduro line was released at the 2016 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show in six sizes:

  • La Galera Maduro Cabeza Caracol (7 1/4 x 50) — $6.75 (Box of 20, $135)
  • La Galera Maduro Chaveta (5 x 50) — $5.75 (Box of 20, $115)
  • La Galera Maduro Cortador (6 1/4 x 52) — $6.50 (Box of 20, $130)
  • La Galera Maduro El Lector (6 x 54) — $6.50 (Box of 20, $130)

  • La Galera Maduro Vitola No. 1 (3 1/2 x 50) — $4 (Box of 20, $80)

The new size will be getting its widespread release immediately following the 2017 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, which happens July 11-14 in Las Vegas, Nev.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
