A limited edition version of the La Galera Habano has landed at Papa Juan’s Cigar Room in the Bronx, N.Y.

The aptly named La Galera Bronx Edition is a 6 1/8 x 52 torpedo that uses an Ecuadorian habano hybrid wrapper, a Dominican criollo 98 binder and a filler that contains Dominican piloto cubano, Dominican criollo 98 grown in the Mao region, and Dominican criollo 98 grown in the country’s Jacagua region. The store describes it as a full-bodied smoke.

A total of 3,000 cigars were produced at Tabacalera Palma, split into boxes of 21 cigars and bundles of 25. Regardless of the packaging format, the cigar has an MSRP of $10.

The cigars have gotten a very limited release since arriving about a week ago, but will get a full release at the store’s upcoming fourth anniversary celebration on Aug. 23.

A representative from La Galera/Indianhead Cigars did not reply to a request for comment about the project.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
