If you’re looking for a Thanksgiving smoke, you might have a new option to consider as La Flor Dominicana is set to begin shipping the Solis to retailers beginning next week.

The blend was created by Litto Gomez Jr. along with his father, who crafted a 6 1/2 x 50 toro extra that uses an Ecuadorian habano leaf, the binder an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf, while the filler is Dominican and comes from La Flor Dominicana’s La Canela farm. The company calls the profile “power and charismatic with bright flavors nuanced through a range of spices that make it unique yet undeniably LFD.” The younger Gomez said that he made a point to try every possible tobacco in the company’s inventory before settling on a final blend.

It is a contrast to La Nox, a cigar released in 2015 and blended by Gomez’s other son, Tony, that was a tribute to the night. Solis gets its name from sol, the Spanish word for sun.

“I was inspired by my big brother’s project La Nox and I wanted to create something that contrasted it,” said Gomez Jr. in a press release. “We have pretty different personalities and I thought that the sun and moon were a perfect metaphor to describe us.”

While the blend was developed by Gomez Jr. and his father, Tony Gomez was part of the project as well by way of designing the artwork.

The MSRP is set at $13.20 per cigar, and it will be offered in 20-count boxes priced at $252. Both La Nox and Solis use a circular box design, though with very different color schemes and designs.

The company debuted at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July. Like La Nox, Solis will be a limited production release, meaning that while it is not limited to a certain number of cigars, it will not be regularly produced due to limitations on the raw materials.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
