La Flor Dominicana’s most recent creation for the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) is on its way to retail, as are the first boxes of its even more limited edition maduro version.
The La Flor Dominicana TAA 48 is on its way to the 80 or so members of the TAA today according to Jon Carney, the LFD’s vp of sales. This year’s version, once again selected by a vote of TAA members, is a 6 x 54 toro gordo that uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Cameroon binder and Dominican filler. It comes with an MSRP of $9.40 per cigar and $235 for a box of 25 cigars.
Also beginning to ship is the TAA 48 Celebration Limited Edition Maduro, an event-only release for TAA retailers that replaces the TAA 48’s Mexican San Andrés wrapper with a maduro version. Unlike its counterpart, it will come in 10-count boxes, but keeps the same size and single stick price.
The maduro version, which was announced during the TAA’s meeting this past March, is a cigar that is being created as the center point of a series of more than 50 events around the country at TAA member stores that is designed to take consumers “on a celebratory journey” of what makes a TAA member a leader in the premium tobacco industry.
During the events, consumers will be able to try the La Flor Dominicana TAA 48 as well be taken on a virtual journey of tobacco, cigar making and the history of the industry. In addition, it will be during these events that they will have access to the TAA 48 Maduro. Each event will run for three hours and be hosted by Carney.
The total production run of both cigars has not been announced, although the TAA 48 Maduro is limited to just 15 boxes per event.
The first TAA Celebration Events happen this week at Two Guys Smoke Shop in New Hampshire and will run through the start of the TAA’s 49th annual meeting and convention, which happens March 12-16, 2017 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. A full schedule of events is expected to be announced next week.
