In August, La Flor Dominicana sold seven NFTs that also came with a custom humidor and the ability to purchase up to 70 exclusive cigars per month. Now, the first shipment of those cigars has been dispatched to their owners, some of whom are trying to resell those cigars for as much as $200 per cigar.

The NFTs—a non-fungible token that is a digital piece of art depicting a cigar—were sold via the UREEQA platform. The winner of each NFT received not only the digital art, but also a 50-count Gold Bullion Humidor and the right to purchase up to 70 Golden NFT cigars per month. The Golden NFT cigar is a 6 1/4 x 41 version of the La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull, a vitola that has also been known as the Toritos and, for many years, has been a personal cigar of Tony Gomez of La Flor Dominicana.

In total, the combined sale prices of the seven auctions were $614,779:

The majority—but not all—of the winning bids were placed by cigar retailers, some of which have begun listing the cigars for sale. Two of the retailers have the Golden NFT listed for $200 per cigar, though one of them offers lower pricing if more cigars are purchased. La Flor Dominicana previously stated that it would charge the NFT owners $15 per cigar for each cigar.

La Flor Dominicana didn’t specifically intend for the cigars to be resold via retailers, so the company didn’t create an MSRP for the Golden NFT cigars. The company’s position is that the owners can choose to resell the cigars at whatever price they like, not resell the cigars, or even not purchase the cigars in the first place.

Furthermore, the owners of the NFT may resell the ownership of the NFT itself. When that happens, the new owner is then able to purchase up to 70 Golden NFT cigars per month.

This is not the first time La Flor Dominicana has created a membership program to distribute this specific cigar. La Flor Dominicana has done a similar thing with its Fleur D’Or Club, a club created for people who purchased one of the company’s high-end cutters, which started at $16,000 when they were announced. Owners of the cutters are part of the Fleur D’Or Club, which entitles them to purchase special releases, including the Andalusian Bull Toritos.

La Flor Dominicana says the Golden NFT cigars use tobaccos that have gone through higher selection standards and are rolled by a single pair to help ensure the highest levels of quality control.
