Whether you call it soccer, football, fútbol or another term, there is a new Edición Regional release from Habanos S.A. that is slated to be released in celebration of the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The cigar is the Juan López Hat-Trick, a robusto extra that measures 140 mm (5 1/2 inches) long with a 54 ring gauge. The size is formally known as the Duke, one that is best known for its debut as the Romeo y Julieta Dukes, a 2009 Edición Limitada, and its 2011 release as the Partagás Serie E. No.2. It has also been used for the Bolívar Soberanos, a 2018 Edición Limitada, as well as a number of Edición Regional releases.

It will be the first time that the size has been released for the Juan López marca.

Sports fans will automatically recognize the inspiration for the cigar’s name, as it is a term used for a player scoring three goals in the same match, and one that has connections to ice hockey as well as soccer.

The cigar will be distributed by Phoenicia T.A.A. Cyrpus Ltd. The 2022 FIFA World Cup runs from November 21 – December 18, and on that final day, Phoenicia is planning watch parties to be held in several cities where participants will smoke the cigar while watching the final match.

Pricing, production numbers and a formal retail release date have not yet been announced. News of the cigar’s release was first announced by Cigars-Connect.com; a representative from Phoenicia T.A.A. Cyrpus Ltd. has confirmed the accuracy of that report.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
