The smallest Joya de Nicaragua Número Uno size will head to stores nationwide later this year.
During tonight’s Freestyle Live event, Juan Ignacio Martínez, executive president of Joya de Nicaragua, announced that the L’Attaché will now be offered to stores nationwide. The L’Attaché is a 5 1/2 x 42 petit corona that was made exclusively for UpDown Cigar in Chicago, the only retailer exclusive vitola made to date.
Like the rest of the line, it uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The Número Uno line is based on the Joya de Nicaragua Clasico line, but was modified for use as a diplomatic gift. Joya de Nicaragua used the cigar in 2018 as a seasonal, event-only release. That cigar measured 6 5/8 x 44 and was named No.1. It went on to win halfwheel’s Cigar of the Year in 2018 and Joya de Nicaragua decided to release the cigar to the public under the Número Uno name.
Before that decision was made, UpDown Cigar requested that it be able to sell the No.1. Joya de Nicaragua eventually gave the store an exclusive size, which went on sale in 2019.
Pricing is set at $13.50 per cigar and $337.49 per box, with the release set to happen before the end of May. The cigar will be sold to stores that are part of the Drew Estate Drew Diplomat Retail Program and/or Joya de Nicaragua’s new Club de Amigos of JDN.
Joya de Nicaragua also announced the new Antaño CT Lonsdale.
