José Seijas To Return with La Matilde
Noted cigar maker José Seijas is on track to debut a new cigar called La Matilde before the end of the year that will be the first release from La Matilde Cigar Co.
Seijas announced his retirement from Altadis USA in January 2012 after running the Tabacalera de Garcia factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic for over 30 years as Vice President and General Manager. He was involved in what the company called the “recreation” of several high-profile brands, including Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, Trinidad, VegaFina, Onyx Reserve and others. Under his watch, Tabacalera de Garcia grew to be the largest factory in the world dedicated to premium, handmade cigars.
In June 2012, it was announced that Seijas had entered into a partnership with Litto Gomez of La Flor Dominicana that would involve moving production of the La Flor Dominicana Air Benders to La Romana. The new operation would also serve as a draw to tourists visiting the area via a company called Cigar Country Tours.
The La Matilde line is slated for release in November and will be available in four sizes, with pricing expected to be in the $6.50 – $8.00 range.

La Matilde Cigar Co. has been active on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, releasing pictures of the cigars in production and resting before being released. According to their Facebook page, production on the cigars began on July 31. A representative from the company said they plan to make a formal announcement about this debut line in the coming months.
