Next week, the new Casa de Montecristo Washington D.C. location will open up at 1132 19th Street NW. And while the new location will have two different bars, you won’t be able to smoke inside.

Update (Jan. 2, 2020) — As noted by comments below, in the latter half of 2019 Casa de Montecristo received the proper permits to allow for smoking.

The new Casa de Montecristo Washington D.C. occupies the entirety of a 4,000-square-foot, two-story building that once housed Famous Luigi’s, which was located at the address for 70 years. Bars are located on both levels with luxury seating on the top level. A total of 76 lockers are spread throughout the two levels.

“What adult cigar smokers will find at our new store is a great selection of the finest cigars available in the United States, and great accommodations for adult cigar lovers to relax and enjoy premium hand-made cigars with friends and like-minded adult consumers,” said Luis Miguel Torres, ceo of Casa de Montecristo, in a press release.

While there are a few locations to smoke cigars inside in Washington D.C., approval for those locations is notoriously challenging. Rocky Patel spent years trying to get approval for alcohol and smoking inside a three-story property before ultimately abandoning a Burn D.C. location.

At Casa de Montecristo, the company is promising a “well-appointed patio” in lieu of indoor smoking.

Casa de Montecristo is part of Imperial Brands, plc, which also owns Altadis U.S.A. There are 28 Casa de Montecristo locations in the U.S., though not all are owned by the company.
