A.J. Fernández has announced the hiring of Starky Arias as its new marketing director.

Arias is currently a representative and graphic designed for Cigar Rings, SRL, which produces cigar bands for numerous cigar companies. In that role, he worked extensively with A.J. Fernández on the bands and packaging for several of the company’s lines.

“Starky has been our go-to with most of our new brand designs and concepts, whether they are my brands or the collaborations I work on,” said Abdel Fernández via a press release. “He and I have always had an amazing working relationship and I finally asked him to join our team.”

Selim Hanono, coo of A.J. Fernández, cited Arias’ experience, knowledge and creativity in design as being key reasons he was brought onboard.

Arias will start his new position on March 1, calling it a wonderful and exciting opportunity. “It is an honor to join the team and get to work on all of the innovative projects. I’ve seen AJ grow throughout the years and the timing is now perfect,” he said.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
