The newest Brick House release is on its way to retailers, though in this case, the cigars are notable because they’re not exactly new.

For its contribution to the Tobacconists’ Association of America Exclusive Series this year, J.C. Newman released three sizes of Brick House that were aged for 10 years after rolling. More specifically, the company says it found the cigars while it was renovating its factory and headquarters in Tampa in 2020 as part of its 125th-anniversary celebration. To clarify, these cigars were rolled in Nicaragua—not Tampa—likely at the San Rafael factory in Ocotal. Today, Brick House is rolled at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí.

  • Brick House Beginnings – TAA Exclusive Churchill Natural (7 1/4 x 50) — $9.60 (Box of 10, $96)
  • Brick House Beginnings – TAA Exclusive Mighty Mighty Maduro (6 x 60) — $9.80 (Box of 10, $98)
  • Brick House Beginnings – TAA Exclusive Mighty Mighty Natural (6 x 60) — $9.80 (Box of 10, $98)

Blend-wise, the Brick House Natural cigars use an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The Mighty Mighty Maduro uses a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

There are approximately 1,100 boxes total between the three sizes.

The TAA is a fairly small group of some of the country’s top tobacconists, about 80 retailers as well as 40 or so manufacturers. The association gathers annually to discuss issues facing the industry and retailers, as well as to have its annual trade show, a unique event that works on a group buying format in order to secure exclusive deals for these generally high-volume merchants.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
