J.C. Newman’s new Vintage Ashtrays are off to stores.

The round black ashtrays are inspired by the ashtrays used at the iconic Stork Club, once a New York hotspot for celebrities. Inside the club, patrons used round black ashtrays that had “STORK CLUB” written on the outside of the bowl. J.C. Newman’s Vintage Ashtray keeps the theme, though it’s been adjusted for cigar smoking. In addition, the lettering reads, “J.C. NEWMAN CIGAR CO., TAMPA, FLA., 1895.”

Each ashtray measures 10 inches in diameter and has slots for four cigars. The MSRP is $50 per ashtray, a $10 increase from the price originally announced last summer.

“When the swanky Stork Club opened in Manhattan in 1929, it was a place for movie stars, professional athletes, and politicians to be seen,” said Drew Newman, fourth generation owner of J.C. Newman, in a press release. “The Stork Club was a place my grandparents, Stanford and Elaine Newman, frequented in New York.  Every time celebrities were photographed at the Stork Club, the famous Stock Club ashtray was on the table in front of them.”

Ironically, the Stork Club’s location is now Paley Park, named after Samuel Paley, the founder of the La Palina cigar brand. Because it is a private park, it is exempt from New York’s park smoking ban and smoking is still allowed in the park from 4-8 p.m.
