The Scrim by HutcH Studios booth might not be the biggest on the show floor, but there’s always something to see when you stop by, whether it be Rick Hutchings doing live scrim work on some new pieces, or simply the table full collection of his work that is waiting to be snapped up by retailers.
While other releases this year have focused on celebrity-themed cutters such as the Stallone Skull Cutter or an Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator-themed cutter, for the show Hutch turned to Africa and big game hunting, though with some new materials used for the handles.
As Hutchings mentioned, he is making the shift away from ivory and to an alternative called Kirinite, which gets bonded with African Blackwood to give the finished product the same look but without the cost and impacts of using actual ivory. As with his other releases, Hutchings starts with a XIKAR Xi body and then adds the customized handles, doing scrim work to give them their signature design. The collection is available in five designs: lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and Cape buffalo. All come with a protective leather case.
