IPCPR 2019: Prometheus

Having covered the Prometheus booth four out of the last five years, I consider myself somewhat familiar with the company’s offerings every year for the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show. While there are fewer overall products this year than has historically been the case, the items on display that included humidors, lighters, cutters and cigars are no less impressive. This year also marks the 15th anniversary for the God of Fire brand, and so quite a few of the new products were related to that in some way.

As has been the case the past few years, the Prometheus booth is dominated by a large depiction of the company’s namesake at the far end, with display cases all around the exterior holding various products. The front cases are reserved for the newest items, and some of the cases located inside the booth were new as well. 

2019 Prometheus Cigar Tubes

These are the same size as others that have been released before and can still hold a 6 1/2 x 56 cigars, but in two brand new finishes: Black Lacquer/Gun Metal and Black Matte/Gun Metal.

2019 Limited Edition God of Fire 15th Anniversary Humidor by Prometheus

There are only two finishes for this commemorative humidor release—Black Lacquer and Macassar Ebony—but both hold the same cigars, both measure 14 x 14 x 9 3/4 inches and both are designed told hold up to 175 cigars.

Both versions of the serial numbered humidor also include two Prometheus Optima Humidifiers that are made in France and one digital hygrometer. There will be a total of 50 humidors split evenly between the two finishes, and each hold the same 60 limited edition God of Fire cigars.

Although it sports a similar cutting design to the 2019 Prometheus Gun Metal Cutter H, that is where the similarities end, as this version is a black lacquer base with the Prometheus Bound art accented in rose gold. It is also limited to 500 pieces and priced $10 higher.

Featuring the same Prometheus Bound art accented in rose gold on the exterior of the lighter, the flame for the Magma X is a jet turbo flat flame. Only 500 are being released and it features a patented dual punch cutter that swings out from the bottom.

As has historically been the case, Prometheus is releasing custom made Travel Humidors filled with OpusX cigars. This year there are three specific cigars, all packaged in 10-count humidors. However, despite the new purple foot bands, Park told me that the blends for the cigars have not changed. In addition, every box is serial-numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

While the Limited Edition Fuente Fuente OpusX Forbidden X “Purple Rain” Humidor by Prometheus features the same number of cigars and the same dimensions as last year’s 2018 Limited Edition Fuente Fuente OpusX Forbidden X “Stairway to Heaven” Humidor by Prometheus— 14 x 14 x 9 3/4 inches, big enough to hold up to 175 cigars—that is pretty much where the similarities end. The price is a bit higher, the number of different cigars you get is lower—albeit some very expensive options—and there are fewer humidors being released overall.

This year, there will be a total of 90 humidors available in five different wood selections: Macassar ebony (25), blue sycamore (25), red sycamore (19), black lacquer (13) and yellow sycamore (8). Regardless of which wood option is chosen, 80 special Fuente cigars are included, with each humidor retailing for $7,250.

There will be a total of 85 humidors, each of which measures the same 21 1/4 x 11 x 5 1/2, and all of which are made in France and can hold up to 175 cigars. As was the case last year, a total of 2,000 travel humidors of the November 2019 release of Opus6 will be available, but this time in only four different colors, each priced at $260: Macassar Ebony (500 total released), Red (500 total released), White (500 total released) and Black (500 total released.) It should be no surprise that there is another Opus22 release this year, and the details are very close to previous years as well: 22 limited edition cigars packaged in four different boxes that have the names of the cigars printed on the outside, all contained within a master box. As the name suggests, all of the items in this collection feature a black lacquer background and purple logo, including the 2019 Limited Edition Fuente Fuente OpusX Purple Rain Black Lacquer Prometheus Cutter H, which is made with double steel blades and retails for $79.95.

Next is the 2019 Limited Edition Fuente Fuente OpusX Purple Rain Black Lacquer Prometheus Magma T which retails for $110.
