There were a number of cigar brands commemorating anniversaries in various ways at this year’s IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, and one such company is La Sirena, which celebrated ten years in business with a new cigar release. Dubbed Aniversario Especial, the new blend features a brand new band design with a mermaid with the letters AFD in her tail, which is a nod to Arielle Ditkowich’s initials.

Even among a mass of people, La Sirena’s nautical-themed booth is hard to miss and while it was not packed full every time I walked past, it had a steady stream of customers walking in and out.

La Sirena Aniversario Especial

Although the Aniversario Especial was soft-launched during an event at Tobacco Plaza in Great Neck, N.Y. on May 23, it was being sold at the show as well. The new blend is limited to only 100 10-count boxes, though Danny Ditkowich told halfwheel that there is enough tobacco to produce another 100 boxes if demand warranted it.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
