Although there were no overt signs or banners announcing it, this year marks La Flor Dominicana’s 25th anniversary, and to celebrate it is showing off a brand new blend along with a smaller size of an existing release. Oh, and there is a $16,000 cutter.

The booth is the exact same as last year, and it was busy enough that I waited a little bit to talk to someone about the new releases. I was a bit surprised that there were no outward indications of the anniversary—other than the new cigars that were being sold, obviously—but the gold cutter did make an impact.

La Flor Dominicana 25th Anniversary

To celebrate its 25th year in business, the company has created the appropriately named 25th Anniversary, a 7 x 52 Churchill composed of an Ecuadorian wrapper and Dominican tobaccos used in both the binder and filler. While La Flor Dominicana declined to comment on specific release numbers, the limited edition is packaged in boxes of 25 with each cigar retailing for $18. In addition, the company limited each retailer to only five boxes of the new release when they ship in September.

  • Wrapper: Ecuador
  • Binder: Dominican Republic
  • Filler: Dominican Republic
  • La Flor Dominicana 25th Anniversary (7 x 52) — $18 (Box of 25, $450)

La Flor Dominicana La Volcada Petite

Previously limited to just one vitola—a 7 x 48 Churchill—the La Volcada line now has a smaller brother. The La Volcada Petite is a 4 1/8 x 34 vitola that is being sold in tins of six, with each cigar retailing for $4. Although it is not a limited edition, the company says the new size will be a limited production cigar that will begin shipping to retailers in September.

  • Wrapper: Mexico (San Andrés)
  • Binder: Ecuador (Corojo)
  • Filler: Dominican Republic
  • La Flor Dominicana La Volcada Petite (4 1/8 x 34) — $4 (Tin of 6, $24)

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
