Gurkha Cigars had one of the larger spaces on the show floor this year decked out in bright red that was immediately eye-catching seemingly as soon as you walked in the hall as it was located just shy of the midway point.

The big news from the company is the fact that it has been thirty years since Kaizad Hansotia acquired the brand, and in that time has put out an immense number of brands and of course elaborate packaging and promotional items, all while developing a notable fan base across the world. This year there were several new lines, some new sizes and a collection of travel humidors that stood out among the new releases.

Gurkha Nicaragua Series

A number of people told me that the Nicaragua Series is one of, if not the company’s fullest offering to date, and I was advised to make smoke it later in the day and preferably on a full stomach. In addition to being full strength, it is also going to be a bit limited, as the company is limiting the cigar to its top accounts. It’s one of two lines to come from AGANORSA, the first time Gurkha has partnered with the noted grower and factory.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
