IPCPR 2019: Caldwell Cigar Co.

Null

Caldwell Cigar Co had a couple of surprises this year, along with some new packaging and another collaboration between Robert Caldwell, Matt Booth and Abdel Fernández.

While days one and two were busier for the booth as evidenced by all the people there as I walked by, a slightly slower day three still had enough people in the booth that it took me a while to see everybody I need to see. The booth design is a revisit of last year, though missing was the Porsche Design display.

Packaging Updates

The first thing that was pointed out, was the newly redesigned packaging for Eastern Standard, Eastern Standard Sungrown, Long Live the King and The King is Dead lines.

The T. Habano

Next is the latest in the AJF/Booth/Caldwell collaboration: The T Habano. This is the third and final release in The T Series, with the first release having a maduro wrapper, the second having a Connecticut and the third—as the name would suggest—uses a habano wrapper.

Long Live the King by AJ Fernandez

A semi-secret venture, Caldwell collaborated with A.J. Fernández on two of the King blends. These aren’t really tweaked blends, so much as a Nicaraguan interpretation of the blends. Fernandez blended these as Nicaraguan puros and only created a very limited amount of each.

  • Filler: Nicaragua
  • Long Live the King by AJ Fernandez Gordo (6 x 60) — $12.20 (Box of 25, $305)

  • Long Live the King by AJ Fernandez Robusto (5 x 50) — $11 (Box of 25, $275)
  • Long Live the King by AJ Fernandez Toro (6 x 50) — $11.40 (Box of 25, $285)

About the author

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010 I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion. Besides my cigar hobby and job in the IT industry, my wife and I love traveling, trying new restaurants and relaxing at home with our two dogs.
