Last year, the A.J. Fernández booth produced smoke—or fire, I’m honestly not sure—that managed to set off the fire supression system. That led to a delay in the trade show and damage to some other booths due to the massive amounts of water. This year, the A.J. Fernández booth is back—yes, the same booth—but without any of the issues.
The first thing I noticed once stepping into the booth is the carpeting. Last year there was none after the fire; this year, the carpeting is some of the thickest in the trade show. I stopped by on day four and there was still some business being done on the show floor—more than most can say—but Abdel had already left.
We’ve known about this project for a while as it showed up on shelves years ago, but the cigar has been described as Abdel Fernández’s tribute to the cigars his father used to smoke in Cuba before the revolution. It’s a four-size line made entirely of tobacco from Abdel’s farms in Nicaragua.
