For like the fifth year in a row, we have the What’s In My Bag, Brooks Whittington Edition. There are some returning favorites as well as some new products, but each of them are absolutely needed. Other than the cigars, which I never smoke while I am working.

  • Lowepro Pro Roller x300 AW — Yes, I am still using this. Yes, it is older than Charlie.
  • Monopod — People (and Charlie) complained about the video being shaky last year and the year before and the year before and the year before, thus the monopod. It should take care of (most of) the problems.
  • Sennheiser AVX Microphone — They sound much better, but look dorkier.
  • Credentials — They get me inside the hall so I can do my job. What else do you need?
  • Business Cards — Still made of wood, but I only have like 10 left, so hopefully I will know everyone I see.
  • Cell Phone — I upgraded to an iPhone 8. It has a better camera, which I like.
  • Anker Charger —For when your phone runs out of batteries and you really, REALLY want to prove one of your co-workers wrong on a piece of useless information.
  • Reporter’s notebook — We ordered a smaller one, but it did not arrive before I left for Vegas (thanks Amazon Prime!) so I am using the same one I used last year. Well, not the same one, but the same kind anyway.
  • Lamy pen — The color matches at least one of my shirts, so that is awesome.
  • Ziplock bag with Boveda — Really could not live without this.
  • BoBo’s Peanut Butter Bar — I doubt I will eat one, but if I need something to eat and don’t have time to sit down, there are worse options out there.
  • Flash with Pocket Wizards — In case I run across someone to shoot for a portrait.
  • S.T.Dupont Maxijet The Jason — This is kind of old but still works, although it’s running out of gas quickly.
  • Visol Products Cigar Case — Holds cigars and you can jump up and down on it without putting a dent in it. Not that I have ever tried that.
  • Stickers — I have never once been asked for stickers, but I keep bringing them. Someone please ask me for stickers so I can get rid of them.
  • Two Sony A7RII Cameras — One has a Sigma 24 ƒ/1.4 lens on it and the other has a Sigma 85 ƒ/1.4 lens on it.

And here’s Charlie talking about why we switched over to the Sony cameras.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
