Micallef made a big entrance with their first show last year and they’re back this year in a prime spot right up front.

This year they’re returning with a lot of new cigars, but also some huge news across the board. To start with they’ve moved into a new factory space they’re calling Micallef Cigars S.A., a 40,000 square foot factory in Estelí, Nicaragua that is allowing them to cut costs, reduce prices and up production.

Pricing Updates

The first big thing is the updated prices. Many of their existing lines have had their prices cut almost in half, with the exception of their top of the line Reserva Limitada Privada. Pricing now ranges from $7 to $14, with the majority of their cigars priced right at $11.

Grande Bold Series

With the new pricing also comes five new blends they’re calling the Grande Bold series. Each blend is named after either a featured tobacco or a flavor profile they’re aiming for. For example the Maduro obviously features a maduro wrapper, though the Nicaragua is not a Nicaraguan puro. The blend aims to bring the bold Nicaraguan profile to your palate even though it uses a Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and filler. This same idea will be used in the future with two more blend lines that feature lighter and medium bodied blends.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
