The Battleground Cigars tent was back on the trade show floor this year, by far one of the most distinctive booths, and arguably the one that best ties in with the company’s theme of honoring American war heroes and legendary figures with cigar lines.

As far as new products, it was a quiet year for the company, but not a silent one. There are two new sampler boxes and an interesting twist coming to a line due to some found tobacco.

Battleground Battalion Chest

One of two new 60-count boxes that the company is releasing, this one features the company’s Battleground General lines: the Rebel, Honduran Maduro and Connecticut Shade lines from the eponymously named line.

  • MSRP: $8.95 per cigar (Boxes of 60, $537)
  • Production: Limited Production
  • Launch Date: July 2018

OPK Boxes

The company is also releasing a new packaging format for its OPK line, combining 20 OPK Fire, 20 OPK Colonel and 20 OPK Maduro robustos into one box. Each cigar is priced at $8.95.

  • MSRP: $8.95 per cigar (Boxes of 60, $537)
  • Production: Limited Production
  • Launch Date: July 2018

Battleground Mysterioso — Blend Update

While not a change, per se, the company’s Mysterioso line will be getting an interesting spin for the upcoming months, as the company found aged Perique from 2011 in its reserves and is beginning to incorporate it into the blend. It should start appearing in cigars shipping in July until stock is depleted, which at this point was still an undetermined amount of cigars. There also won’t be any special bands or other indicators that the aged Perique is being used; you’ll just have to ask your retailer when the cigars came in and see if your taste buds can tell the difference.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
