IPCPR 2017: Global Premium Cigars

Null

Global Premium Cigars, the parent company of the 1502 brand, was located towards the back of the show floor but benefitted from a fairly open surrounding space to generate traffic from both existing and new customers.

Enrique Sánchez had just one new cigar, but it was the latest in his most exclusive limited edition.

1502 XO Churchill

When the 1502 XO was first announced in 2015, the plan was to have new vitolas released every year for the foreseeable future. FDA regulations made that a bit more challenging, but after showing off eight vitolas at last year’s show, it appears that the 1502 XO will stay on course.

As with the debut release Enrique Sánchez is keeping specifics of the blend under wraps. None of the specific components are being disclosed, but the line gets its XO name from the term for extra old; in this case, some of the tobacco used has been aged for 18 years. The line is made at Plasencia Cigars S.A. in Nicaragua, and Sánchez says that less than 1,000 boxes of 10 cigars being made, down from the 1,502 boxes he produced last year.

About the author

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
