While it might not have been front and center, the Alpha Cigar Co’s booth was certainly an affair that looked much more like one with some experience under its belt than a first time IPCPR debut.

Alpha Cigar Company booth IPCPR 2016

Started in 2015, TJ Cavenagh and Justin Hansen launched Alpha Cigar Co, with their initial focus being on absinthe infused cigars. While they might have been some of the younger cigar company owners at the show, they still had a well spoken knowledge and appreciation for both the tobacco and the spirits side of their product, as they both had previously worked in those respective industries. In addition to the cigars, they were also showing off some neat ashtrays made out of cigar boxes and wooden cigar holders from Ashbox by Derek. I got wrapped up talking shop with them and forgot to get close ups, but they can be seen in the video below.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
