The Tatuaje booth had its usual steady stream of traffic throughout the show, and several times there seemed to be a bit of a wait for retailers to get their orders in or have a chance to chat with Pete Johnson.

In fact, while we chatted with him a few times in passing, it wasn’t until the very end of the show that we could pull him away from the booth long enough to give us a rundown of what he was showing off.

Tatuaje Verocu
The Verocu line has already started arriving in humidors in early July; you can read more about it here. As noted both in the story and video, there are six vitolas, No.1 (6 1/4 x 52, $10), No.2 (5 1/2 x 54, $10), No.3 (6 x 46, $9), No.4 (5 1/4 x 50, $9), No.5 (4 x 40, $4.25) and No.9 (4 1/4 x 49, $8). The cigar uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and fillers.

Tatuaje The Hyde
As for the Monster Series, the news came about it last year when The Jekyll was revealed, which of course meant that The Hyde would be released for 2015. It’s a Sumatra version of The Jekyll.

As was shown off as well last year, there’s an S.T. Dupont lighter as well as part of the release.

& More
Beyond that, La Vérité 2013 remains on the radar with a possible release before the end of the year but could be a spring 2016 release.

A number of Johnson’s other projects were on display but that have been covered elsewhere, including the Johnny Depp Artist Series, the GWAR B-Q CiGWAR (which returns for this year’s event on Aug. 15) and the project with apparel company UNDFTD.

As you heard in the video, Johnson will have a new booth next year as the Garcías will expand into his space, which will give him a “rock-and-roll themed” booth. The Brown Label Culebra may come out next year, and there’s also a reason we’ve been seeing Pete Johnson with a pipe more and more, though details about that remain for a later day.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
