For Dean Parsons, this year’s trade show was about one thin vitola.

Originally scheduled to be released in June, the 7 1/4 x 40 lancero incorporates a Brazilian Ariparaca wrapper covering a cameroon binder as well as Dominican piloto cubano, seco and ligero and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The lancero is the fourth vitola in the Maduro Reserva line, following the Robusto (5 x 52), Double Corona (6 x 54) and Gordo (6 x 60). All of the Maduro Reserva cigars are rolled at the Charles Fairmorn Factory in the Dominican Republic.

According to the company, only 5,000 of the Maduro Reserva Lancero are being released in 2015, packaged in 100 bundles of 25 as well as 100 boxes of 25. The cigars will carry a suggested retail price of $8.50 and they are shipping to retailers this month.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
